Spring Break

So, after a weekend in Weyburn I have learned that there are two people other than my students who visit my blog occasionally. So, this posting is just for you two, whoever you may be.
A reflection upon being a school teacher at the beginning of Spring Break.
First off, I am somewhat jealous at times of those teachers and students around me who travel. My good friend Emmi is heading off to Cuba for her honeymoon, a group of 14 students went off to Vietnam while 50 other high school kids went to Australia and New Zealand, and just before boarding our flight to Regina I saw my principle heading off to lands unknown (Spain, Vietnam and other places the past few years) with his wife. I do enjoy a good relaxing stay at home, don' t get me wrong, and how can I complain when I get to hang out with Samantha all day, but every now and then I get the bug to be in lands far far away (too much Shrek 2 today).
I am enjoying this year immensely though it is one of my busiest yet. This Spring Break comes at the right time once again. After the break we have grad rapidly approaching, I have to teach Catcher in the Rye, Death of a Salesman, and the history of the twentieth century from the Cuban Missile Crisis up to yesterday in about 2 months. Add to that supervising a group of students working on a literacy project, marking provincial exams in Edmonton and starting the landscaping business up again and you have a busy end of the year forming. But hey, that's what life is all about.
And that is what Spring Break is all about. A time of reflection, of relaxation, of kicking back and reading a good book (working on The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant). And taking the odd picture of my cute little girl.
And also doing some spiritual reflection, of course. I have been listening this year to podcasts from Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington. Pastor Mark Driscoll has a way of pointing to Christ by telling it like it is from a scriptural standpoint and I find myself encouraged and empowered by the words he speaks. Pretty cool.
Well, off to lounge around some more. Thanks for checking in...
Mr. C
